Soma 700C White Tire - $38.00

Ghisallo wood rims wear a variety of tires, of course paying close attention to maximum pressure advice. The Soma Everwear tire in white is my all-time favorite. This listing is for one tire. They offer a full 5mm of tread depth and a red liner to indicate excess wear. The super supple sidewall gives a fast, lively ride that's hard to beat. With a minimum rim strip (I like just one layer of high grade electrical tape) this tire is easy to mount and a joy to pedal. Nothing like the quality of old-school Japanese tire maker, Panaracer. Indulge yourself, put some snap into your bike's appearance. Celebrate the wood with white tires, much as was often done 100 years ago.

Vittoria Mastik One Cement - $4.00

The handy 30g tube is the best way to glue tubulars. Mastik has been proved to be best all around bond. Start the process by mounting the tire dry and inflating to full pressure. Let it sit overnight before gluing. Apply a light coat to both the rim and the tire's base tape (use an acid brush to spread) and let dry. A few hours later, apply another coat to the rim bed and fit your tire with only enough air to give it a round shape. Start at the valve and make sure the tire is straight before adding full pressure. Read more here.

For the 2012 Handbuilt Show, Curtis Odom created a wheel display stand that echoes the richness of the early industrial revolution, when bicycles first flourished. Entirely of CNC aluminum, the stand upright is bolted to a powder coated base. A bold and authentic statement, at home in the Ritz lobby, MOMA, or any distinguished interior. These were not intended for commercialization. Only two have been made. Do you want to showcase a special wheel and celebrate cycling in a most artistic way?

The Bicycle Wheel by Jobst Brandt - $21.00

This is the 3rd Edition of Jobst's classic work, a necessary reference for any aspiring wheel builder and a handsome addition to any cycling lover's library. Jobst's pioneering research has much to do with the renaissance of wheel design now underway. Back in 1975, when his inquiry began, well-built wheels were all too rare and so was our understanding of the physics of this remarkable structure. Leading a motley crew of co-contributing fellow investigators, Jobst fleshed out the true nature of the tensioned wheel and recorded the details for all of us. Isn't about time for a copy of your own? Please note, we now have the German edition as well as English. Jobst is very proud of his German heritage and visited Switzerland, Germany, and Austria (among other cycling mecca's) nearly every year.

Morizumi Spoke Machine - $2,900.00

This ingenious spoke cutting and threading machine is a must for any bicycle workshop that does a lot of wheel work. Today's wheels use too many types and lengths of spokes and today's riders are impatient for builds and repairs. The answer is a spoke machine and the Morizumi is the best you can buy. It comes complete, including a manual describing function, maintenance, and trouble shooting. What are its features? (1) Spoke cutting is ultra precise for both J-bend and straight pull spokes. The cutter is a two part shear. One part is a hardened, round tube that supports the spoke shaft. Across its face slides a sharp, bladed tool. The cut is accurate and perpendicular. This is the EXACT method used in actual spoke manufacturing. (2) Spoke gauge is set in seconds by moving a toggle switch about 1cm. up or down. (3) Thread depth can be micro controlled with fine thread adjusting screws. In this way, much more effective life can be squeezed out of threading dies. (4) Threading is fast and easy. Combined with cutting to length, the Morizumi machine will support production rates of 400-450 spokes per hour. I agree that the Phil cutter can go somewhat faster, but the consistency and lack of jamming of our tool more than makes up. (5) The machine does not accumulate debris. There are no areas that can become filled or spoiled by spoke cutting metal bits. Even so, it's easy to fully disassemble for inspection and cleaning. No tools are required. (6) The threading dies are extremely long lived. These are the same fine, Japanese dies used to manufacture Wheelsmith spokes (in the past). They can be expected to last for more than 50,000 spokes. Light oil is recommended for threading, applied to the dies every 100 operations, or so. Have you thought about the expense of modern spokes? How about CX-Ray? And how many different lengths are needed to support all the wheel brands and models out there? The wheel scene has never been so diverse and hundreds, literally, of lengths are needed. What better way to meet this challenge than with a spoke cutter? Shops throughout the world are storing millions of spokes that are the WRONG length. These 278's and 305's are going to take decades to sell. Now is the time to cut them to the length needed. You don't need spoke blanks to support this strategy. Spoke overstock is everywhere. Make a big shop or distributor an offer. In 2004, I was witness to several tons of DT spokes go to scrap at the liquidation auction of a Seattle area bicycle maker. That should never have happened.

P&K Lie make one of the world's most elegant and effective truing stands. They also offer one of the cleverest spoke wrenches you can buy. The P&K wrench is a square drive, which makes nipple rounding (especially concerning with aluminum nipples) nearly impossible. Extended flats give you lots of turning leverage. We mostly stock black, but check for other colors.

P&K Lie Truing Stand - $2,100.00

P&K Lie truing stands are made in Germany by siblings Kerstin and Peter Lie. This could be the World's most beautiful and effective wheel truing stand. It is available in North America, exclusively through Wheel Fanatyk. We've been out of supply for some time but hope to catch up on the wait list this summer. Our next shipment will begin a switch to the Super250. We're just thinking that anyone in North America is going to want their "top of the line" regardless of the necessity for the ultra high resolution Super250 adds. Rather than amazing 0.1mm gradation in the clock center, we can now enjoy 0.025mm. What next? The price of the Super250 is much higher but the exchange rate has tipped in the dollar's favor. So, while it lasts, these will be much less than otherwise. Super250 is up in price but we're including a several hundred dollar price reduction at the same time. The stand features are unique: (1) Stunning execution; luxurious use of materials (lots of immaculate brass, rare these days); gorgeous contours for knobs, slides, fixtures. A work of art. (2) Very fast and solid wheel gripping. What a relief to be free of insecure axle mounting or the need for nuts and quick releases for solidity. (3) Amazing, custom built dial gauges. But these are not just huge gauges, they are non-linear sweep gauges. Non-linear means you can use them on a very untrue wheel. Those of you using dial indicators in your building know they can't be employed until the wheel is very true because the needle will spin wildly around which is impossible to interpret for truing. P&K Lie gauges are designed by Peter Lie to be used from the earliest stage of wheelbuilding. With P&K Lie, you switch 100% to dial gauge reading. And, man, does it speed things up. This is the stand's most compelling feature: SPEED! (4) We ship each stand with a spoke wrench and a holder. The holder attaches to the lower brass gauge bar to support the stand if it is not otherwise bolted to a work surface. The holder is a must if you want to move the stand around. (5) The stand can also be equipped with a disk brake holder, enabling precise brake rotor truing. We list it as a separate item. Please visit our website for a complete article about the stand and links to videos describing its use. Supply is limited and, from time to time, we will be awaiting delivery. In such case, we will make immediate contact and explain the situation. Options include an instant refund of any payment or joining our waiting list.

Park SW-10 Spoke Wrench - $37.00

Why such a relic in your toolbox? Sentimental? No sir, this is a true sleeper. "Sleeper," an overlooked tool that comes out of hiding rarely but when it does, it saves the day. Look like a hero, it's easy. The SW-10 was born when nipple sizes were hard to predict and an adjustable wrench was more practical. Today it will make you a legend if you whip it out when a nipple is frozen stiff and won't turn. It might be corrosion, lack of lube, overtightening, or the the nipple flats might be deformed. None of this deters SW-10. Put it on the distressed nipple (with a little light oil if available) and turn carefully. 9 times out of 10, the nipple will rotate. What a difference if you want to replace this buggered nipple, because it's probably a spoke from the rear wheel's drive side. If you can't remove the damaged nipple you'll have no choice but to cut the spoke, which means removing the cassette. A 2 minute task or a 20 minute job? Your choice. If you're a team mechanic, then you need a few aces in your bag. Carrying this little devil around the globe will make cosmic sense the day you smile and think "we've been waiting for this moment." Trust me, it brings karma and, can't you hear the cheers and gasps when you work a wheel miracle? Bless the Hawkins for keeping it in production.

Spokey Spoke Wrench - $7.00

This venerable tool is a gypsy in the peculiar bicycle world. First offered by Delta some 20yrs ago. Then championed by DT as their house wrench (no longer, they're too proud). Sometimes available, sometimes hard to find. Just lately Rixen & Kaul of Germany are offering the "patented" version, thank goodness. But the price is going up. I was fortunate to find a couple dozen at United Bike Supply in Ashland, the original Delta version. Why is this such a good wrench? (1) Every builder has personal preferences. This may become your all time favorite. Or not. You deserve to own it anyway. (2) Plastic won't rust, break, and is bright red. Psychologists say red stuff goes faster. Can you build a wheel faster with a red wrench? If so, please report to us because it's highly illogical. (3) Only plastic can touch the spoke and the rim, a great feature if your rim is easily scratched, the nipple short, the spoke colored, etc. (4) What a nice feel. If only that plastic was a rare hardwood.
