The robust Balloon rim weighs about 615 g., is designed for clincher tires, and comes with a set of extra-long nipples and shaped washers. This rim is ideal for restorations and 29R cruising. The tire pressure with new carbon lining is relatively unlimited, certainly up to 85psi. We recommend using cork pads for rim brakes, although yellow Swisstop also work.
This particular model is suited to restorations of early safety bikes that wore semi-pneumatic sew ups. Those tires are rare and expensive. Balloon rims with cream colored clinchers (like Electra's Amsterdam) is a nearly identical match for the original fitment.
The Balloon rim is also available in Natural, Red, Dark, Vintage, and Red Passion tones, as well as other drillings. Please contact us to special order, or if you have further questions.
